PASS-PORT
K-12 is a web-based performance assessment
system for documenting the knowledge and skill of new teachers mentored
by the
Louisiana Department of Education through the Teacher
Assistance and Assessment Program (TAAP).
PASS-PORT
K-12 will:
- Allow
new teachers to create standards-based electronic portfolios,
publish portfolios on the Internet, request feedback
from others, and allow the viewing
of results from the evaluation process.
- Provide
features that allow teachers to manage file artifacts, professional
development records, and
work samples for later inclusion in electronic
portfolios all through a simple web-based interface.
- Provide
features that allow designated individuals the ability to route
electronic portfolios
to evaluation teams, complete evaluation instruments
online, and make the results of the evaluation process available to the teacher.
- Provide
the State a simple web-based system for communication with system
users (i.e. teachers) and collection/aggregation of surveys
and evaluation
data for the purposes of accountability.
- Provide
the State a mechanism for electronically disseminating to teacher
preparation programs evaluation data collected
in the TAAP evaluation
process.
In the
State of Louisiana, PASS-PORT K-12 is a key component in a larger
strategy to utilize information technology and Internet technologies
to:
- enhance
Louisiana Colleges of Educations’ ability
to gather and analyze data on candidate performance and
program design
in order to ensure quality
teacher candidates;
- enhance
the Department of Education’s
ability to gather and analyze data on new teacher performance
to ensure quality teaching in PK-12 classroom;
and

the State of Louisiana’s ability to aggregate
data on PK-16+ teacher preparation and new teacher mentoring
reform efforts.
